The Starting Point
A UAE-based money exchange company, licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE, required a corporate web presence that could do several things simultaneously: represent the institution credibly, present its full service offering clearly, serve a bilingual audience across English and Arabic, and display live currency exchange rates drawn from a real-time external source.
The institution’s service portfolio was substantial — currency exchange, remittance, Wage Protection System processing, VAT payments, and more. Presenting that range coherently, while meeting the disclosure and transparency requirements of a licensed UAE entity, required a platform built to a higher standard than a general-purpose website.
Attempting to deliver this as a standard WordPress build — with a plugin-based rate converter on shared hosting — would have produced a site that functioned superficially but failed at the level of reliability, compliance, and security the institution required.
The practical consequence of getting any component wrong — broken rate data, missing disclosure pages, an unhardened server on client infrastructure — was reputational and regulatory risk, not just a poor user experience.
The Brief
The client required a complete web platform that could:
The specific requirements:
Present the full institutional profile — services, team, branch locations, partner network, media, and careers — under a coherent design system
Display live currency exchange rates and provide an interactive converter drawing from a real-time external API
Support full bilingual operation — English and Arabic — across all site sections
Meet the disclosure requirements of a Central Bank of the UAE licensed entity: AML/CFT policy, data privacy, disclosure and transparency pages, key fact statements, fraud prevention, and consumer education content
Operate on the client’s own infrastructure, configured and hardened to a standard appropriate for the sector
Remain maintainable — content, rates, branch information, and regulatory pages all updateable without developer involvement
The complexity of the problem was not in building a WordPress site — but in delivering platform, integration, and infrastructure to the standard required of a licensed financial institution.
What We Did
The engagement required three systems to be delivered as one — the WordPress platform, the API integration, and the infrastructure. Delivering all three together to the same standard was the challenge.
Custom WordPress Theme — Structured for a regulated UAE entity
No existing theme provided the structural requirements the platform needed. A custom theme was designed and developed from scratch — accommodating the full range of content types required: service pages, branch locator, team profiles, media archive, regulatory disclosure pages, partner listings, and a prominent homepage currency conversion interface.
The bilingual requirement shaped the theme architecture from the outset. The English and Arabic versions mirror each other structurally — with the Arabic version handling right-to-left layout, typography, and navigation correctly throughout. Bilingual capability was built into the theme, not added after the fact.
The design prioritised institutional credibility: clear service hierarchy, licensing information and regulatory links surfaced in the footer, and a content structure that made the full disclosure suite accessible without disrupting primary user journeys.
Live Currency Converter — API Integration
The currency converter and the live exchange rate display draw from an external API in real time. For a money exchange company, rate data is a core product — not a widget. Visitors arrive specifically to check rates before making a transaction decision.
The integration pulls live rate data on page load, displays it in a structured converter interface, and surfaces today’s rates in a dedicated section. The system includes graceful error handling — when the API is unavailable, the interface fails safely rather than displaying stale or broken data. [API_SOURCE — confirm the currency data provider if it can be named.]
The integration was implemented as a maintainable theme-level component — not a third-party plugin with its own update cycle and security surface. That decision kept the rate display reliable and under loreD’s direct control.
LAMP Server on Client Infrastructure — Configuration and Hardening
The platform was deployed on the client’s own infrastructure. loreD configured the full LAMP stack — Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP — and hardened the environment before any site content was deployed. The client retained ownership of the infrastructure; loreD delivered a controlled, hardened hosting environment on top of it.
Hardening covered the full stack: Apache security headers and module configuration, PHP hardening, database access controls, SSL/TLS configuration and certificate management, firewall rules, and brute-force protection via fail2ban. The server was not deployed in a default state — it was configured as a financial-services hosting environment from the first deployment.
Deploying on client infrastructure — rather than shared hosting — gave the institution a controlled environment with no shared attack surface, a consistent security baseline, and full ownership of the underlying hardware and network. loreD manages the configuration; the client owns the stack.
The result was a single system where content, live data, and infrastructure operate together — not as separate components with separate points of failure.
The Technical Challenge
Three distinct engineering challenges ran in parallel across this engagement. Each was manageable in isolation. Delivering all three together to the same standard was the challenge
Bilingual theme architecture
Arabic RTL support in WordPress requires more than a translation plugin. The theme’s layout system, typography stack, navigation structure, and content templates all needed to handle RTL correctly — including mirrored layouts, Arabic-appropriate fonts, and correct text alignment throughout. This was built into the theme at the structural level, not patched in afterwards.
Real-time API reliability in a financial context
A currency exchange company’s rate data is functionally a product. If the converter displays incorrect, stale, or missing rates, it undermines the institution’s credibility at the exact moment a visitor is making a transaction decision. The integration was built with error handling, loading states, and a graceful fallback — so the interface behaves predictably under all conditions, including API latency or downtime.
Regulatory content architecture
Central Bank of the UAE licensed entities carry specific disclosure obligations. The site’s content architecture had to accommodate a full regulatory page suite — AML/CFT, data privacy, key fact statements, fee disclosures, consumer education, fraud prevention — in a structure that was both compliant and navigable. These pages are not incidental content; for a licensed operator, they are part of the product.
Infrastructure hardening on client-owned systems
Configuring and hardening a LAMP stack on client infrastructure adds a layer of coordination that managed hosting does not require — access provisioning, environment validation, configuration documentation, and a handover process that ensures the client can maintain ownership without losing the hardened baseline. The hardening was verified before deployment, not after.
Results
The platform enabled the institution to operate a compliant, real-time digital presence — where customers can access services, verify rates, and trust the accuracy and security of the system at the point of decision.

What This Engagement Demonstrates
The UAE financial services portal demonstrates loreD’s ability to deliver regulated-sector web infrastructure — where platform, integration, and hosting are part of the same engagement, and each component must meet a consistent standard.
Platform, API, and infrastructure as one system: the three delivery areas were scoped, built, and launched together — not handed off to separate vendors or managed as independent workstreams.
API integration as product, not feature: for a currency exchange company, live rate data is a core service. The integration was built to the reliability standard that implies — with error handling, graceful fallback, and no third-party plugin dependency.
Bilingual from the ground up: Arabic RTL support was built into the theme architecture, not retrofitted. Both language versions are structurally equal.
Infrastructure on client-owned systems: the LAMP stack was configured and hardened on the client’s own infrastructure — not outsourced to a shared hosting provider. The client owns the stack; loreD manages the configuration.
Compliance by design: the full regulatory disclosure suite was built into the site architecture from the start — AML/CFT, data privacy, key fact statements, fraud prevention — not added as an afterthought.
Single managed relationship: platform, integration, and infrastructure are maintained by loreD under a single engagement. No fragmentation between hosting provider, developer, and integration support.
Building a Web Platform for a Regulated Institution?
If your platform requirements span web development, live data integration, and infrastructure — and the context demands security and compliance — the build needs to address all three to the same standard. A working website on an unhardened server, or a live rate feed with no error handling, is not a complete solution.
